Pacific Asia Museum celebrates year of the Dragon

On Monday, July 30, 2012, dancers waited for hours in the Santa Barbara Courthouse in Santa Barbara, Calif., to perform auditions for a spot in the Old Spanish Days Fiesta. A tradition for nearly 80 years, the dancers hoped to get coveted spots on prime nights to dance in front of an audience at the sunken garden. Due to so many applicants this year, the judges were running hours behind schedule. (Photo by Victoria Linssen / Brooks Institute © 2012)

Women of Distinction Awards Celebration

On Wednesday, September 19, 2012, Andrew Soliz and his wife Carrie Woodburn hosted Tibetan monks from the Drepung Loseling Phukhang monastery in southern India at their home in Laguna Beach, Calif. Soliz, a Native American, invited the monks into his tipi where they shared chants and prayers for all peoples around the world, especially those who have been displaced from their lands. The visit was important for Soliz who has been the subject of controversy over his sweat lodge ceremonies he's performed at his home since moving to Laguna earlier this year.
