Peeking Newt
Image 17 of 22
On Saturday, November 3, 2012, a captive California Newt (Taricha torosa), climbs over twigs and foliage. Seemingly innocuous, the newt's glands secrete the potent neurotoxin tetrodotoxin, which is hundreds of times more toxic than cyanide. This neurotoxin is so strong that it is enough to kill most vertebrates, including humans, if ingested. (Photo by Victoria Linssen © 2012, 2013)
